Leonardo Marino, sizilianischer Komponist, lebt und arbeitet in Mailand. Er studierte klassische und Jazz-Musik mit Alessandro Solbiati in Mailand und Michael Jarrell in Genf. Seine Kompositionen wurden u.a. vom Ensemble Intercontemporain, dem Teatro Comunale di Bologna, dem OSE! Orchester, dem Pannon Philharmonic Orchestra, Ensemble Divertimento, Mdi Ensemble, Ukho Ensemble, Ensemble Prometeo, Ensemble Contrechamps und IEMA Ensemble gespielt.
Er arbeitete mit Dirigenten wie Clement Power, Marco Angius, Luigi Gaggero, Gregory Vajda, Daniel Kawka, Lukas Vis, Filippo Perocco, Holly Hyun Choe, Joanna Natalia Slusarczyk und Jaume Santonja, sowie Solisten wie Ditta Rohmann, Luca Quintavalle, Melanie Rothman, Dyna Pisarenko, Goska Isphording, Alfonso Alberti, Mariagrazia Bellocchio, Rachel Koblyakov, Viktor Rekalo, Tim Maas, Michael Taylor und Laura Cantani.
Seine Kammeroper APNEA wurde auf dem 61st Festival of Contemporary Music oft he Venice Biennale 2017 uraufgeführt. Er war einer der mentees im 2020 Mentoring Programm der Péter Eötvös Stiftung. Seine zweite Oper Huit minutes – nous étions presque mit einem Libretto von Pablo Jakob Montefusco wurde in 2021 Genf unter der Leitung von Clement Power uraufgeführt. Es war eine Produktion von Operalab.ch, einer vom Grand Theatre de Genève, der Comédie de Genève und den höheren Schulen der Suisse Romande gegründeten Plattform.
In 2022 gewann er den Kompositionspreis für Kammermusik beim Internationalen George Enescu Wettbewerb, und in 2023 den 1. Preis des XXIX Concorso Internationale die Compositione 2 agosto. Er erhielt Kompositionsaufträge von Institutionen wie dem Ensemble Intercontemporain, Traiettorie, dem WDR Köln und der Royal Academy of Music in London.
Derzeit unterrichtet er Harmonielehre und Analyse am Conservatorio G. Verdi in Como. Seine Kompositionen werden von SZ Sugar veröffentlicht.

His chamber opera “APNEA” premiered at the “61st Festival of Contemporary Music of the Venice Biennale” in 2017. He was chosen as one of the two mentored composers of the Mentoring Programme 2020, promoted by the Péter Eötvös Foundation. His second opera, “Huit Minutes - Nous y étions presque”, with a libretto by Pablo Jakob Montefusco, was performed in September 2021 in Geneva under the musical direction of Clement Power. It was a production of Operalab.ch, a platform created by the Grand Théâtre de Genève, la Comédie de Genève, and the schools of higher education in the Suisse Romande.
In September 2022, he won the Composition Prize for chamber music at the International George Enescu Competition. He also won the first prize at the XXIX edition of the “Concorso Internazionale di Composizione 2 agosto”. His pieces have been performed in various concert seasons, and he has received commissions from institutions such as Ensemble Intercontemporain, Traiettorie, the Royal Academy of Music in London, and WDR in Cologne.
