Biography

Birke J. Bertelsmeier, composer, pianist and conductor,piano lessons with Prof. B. Szczepanska subsequently studying piano with Prof. P. Gililov at the University of Music Cologne (diploma 2005). Awards in competitions like “Jugend Musiziert”, “Jugend Komponiert”, “Robert-Schumann-Wettbewerb” in Düsseldorf, Steinway Competitions in Hamburg and Berlin and performances f.e. in Hamburg Music Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Tonhalle Düsseldorf and others.
Studying composition with D. Graham (Clara-Schumann-School of Music Düsseldorf) and additional with Wolfgang Rihm (Hochschule für Music Karlsruhe (diploma 2008) (“Konzertexamen” 2011). Studying Musicology (master 2009).
Her present work includes an extensive list of compositions, such as projects for operas, oratories, film scores, orchestral works, chamber music and solo parts. She had premieres and performances of her compositions among others at the „Impuls Festival“ in Graz, at the „Heidelberger Frühling“, the „Acanthes“ in Metz, the „13èmes Journées de la Harpe Arles“, the „Davos Festival“, the „Akademie der Künste“ in Hamburg and the „International Summer Course for New Music Darmstadt” 2008 (with the Arditti Quartett), the „Royaumont“ (Neue Vokalsolisten Stuttgart) in Paris, the „Kasseler Musiktage 2008“ (with Diotima Quartett), the „November Musik“ in Essen, the „YoungEuroClassic 2009“ (with the International Ensemble Modern Academy) in Berlin, the „Musikalischer Sommer in Ostfriesland“ (with Barockorchester), the „Alpenklassik Festival“ (with the Philharmonic Orchestra Bad Reichenhall) funded by the Ernst von Siemens music foundation 2010, the “ensemble Europa“ (WDR) in Cologne, the „Klavierfieber“ (with Hinrich Albers). Premieres were broadcasted at the WDR, SWR, BR, NDR, HR and DRadio. 2006/07 receiving the „Höpfner Scholarship“ with a composition contract, the „Brahmshausstipendium 2009” and in 2010 Winner of the „Mikhashoff Competition”.
